When you need to wrap a present, think creatively.
For smaller gifts you can buy some fabric that is themed for the occasion...and there is fabric for just about every theme. We wrapped a Bat Mitzvah present in blue-and-white-material with a design of Stars of David.
For a larger or more awkward gift use a plastic tablecloth, the ones lined with felt are good. They cost about a dollar or two - cheaper than wrapping paper - and can be used later.
To hold everything in place, just wrap some inexpensive wool around the whole thing and tie a bow.

This is an old household tip, but recent recipients seemed surprised and pleased, so the HNJJ staff is passing it along to another generation.
