Jersey Quake??

Here at HNJJ at 1:53 p.m. we were working on a calming photo slideshow of a Sunset at Belmar Marina when our office shook with two distinct shakes a few seconds apart.

Hillsborough Police dispatch already knew about it and were looking into the possibility of an earthquake.

An earthquake in New Jersey?

When you aren't used to it, it rattles your composure. The Californians are probably laughing at us.

Many Main Street restaurants provide outside dining on Cruise Nights at reasonable prices. Many of the area businesses stay open for cruise...patronize them.

This is a true cruise with many of the cars driving up-and-down Main Street...be careful.

There is an oldies DJ at the church on West Main Street and more cars in the lot behind the church.

Fireworks: Three's a Charm!

Hillsborough Township is going to make a third try at celebrating America's Independence Day...on Labor Day, September 5th.

After being rained out twice, the fireworks are now scheduled to be held at Auten Road Intermediate School with shuttle-buses running from the high school starting at 8 p.m.

Why not just make this a new Hillsborough tradition?

The weather will be cooler. The fireworks can start earlier. The price for fireworks will be cheaper and easier to schedule.

According to the United States Department of Labor, Labor Day "...constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country..." and, according to the DOL website, the first Labor Day was celebrated on September 5, 1882.

And, if we still want to celebrate America's Independence, there are American historical moments that can be celebrated; on September 5th, 1774, the First Continental Congress assembled in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

##
Of course, Labor Day is probably a time-and-a-half holiday for all the township employees working at the celebration.
