SCPC Concert Tonight: Tony Trischka

When you think about banjo music, many of us blank out after Dueling Banjos, the music most associated with the 1972 movie Deliverance; but sometimes we just need to be reminded: Pete Seeger, Earl Scruggs, The Kingston Trio...the Smothers Brothers.
This evening's Somerset County Park Commission's 2010 Summer Concert Series features American banjo player - and New Jersey resident - Tony Trischka.
Go to his website to hear some of his music and you will make attending tonight's concert a must. See you there.
The free concert starts at 7 p.m. at Dukes Island Park on Old York Road in Bridgewater. If the weather looks iffy, call (908) 722-1200 X 351 to check on concert.
Don't forget your folding chair, a blanket, maybe a picnic, and a few dollars for ice-cream.

SCPC Concert: Kenny Vance and The Planotones

The Somerset County Park Commission's 2010 Summer Concert series continues tomorrow at 7 p.m. with Kenny Vance and the Planotones.

Those of us who remember the music of the 1950s and 1960s will remember Jay and The Americans; Planotone front-man Kenny Vance was one of the founders. Think Cara Mia. Come a Little Bit Closer, and She Cried.

For more about this group, visit their website.
These free concerts are held at Duke Island Park on Old York Road in Bridgewater. Bring a chair or a blanket. Bring a picnic dinner or buy some ice cream at the concert. Have a great evening!
