It's the Little Things...Japan

Yesterday there was another earthquake in Japan, not as big as the March 11th 9.0 earthquake, the "Great Eastern Japan Earthquake" [東日本大震災, Higashi Nihon Daishinsai], but still discouraging, disheartening, to the Japanese people.

Robert Brady,an American expat who settled in Japan in 1980, blogs at Pureland Mountain . Follow his posts as he tries to contact family in the earthquake area, locates them, and eventually gets them to his home.

From the Pureland blog I found a link to Socks for Japan, a webpage dedicated to supplying new socks to refugees.

New, clean, dry socks packaged with an encouraging note...such a little thing.

The Pureland blog also has a link to a site where there are before-and-after photographs of tsunami areas

If you have the time, view this youtube post found on the Kuji City Blog of beautiful Kuji City accompanied by haunting music [I wish I could identify the music and the artists]:

From the Daily Yomiuri Online, a reporter's story of a flight he took along the coastline the day after the earthquake and tsunami:

The plane flew further south. The town of Kuji, Iwate Prefecture, once nestled in the curve of a bay, had been swept away by a tsunami. The ground was soaked in seawater and shining as it reflected the sunlight.

Happy Hatchday to You???

People all over the world have been watching this year's Duke Farms' Eagle Cam. With today the estimated hatching date for the first of the three eggs, the one which was laid on February 28th, I noticed that the number of viewers on air was over 2,000 most of the day.

But still no action.

It is getting too dark to see much right now, but we'll all be back in the morning.

##
For those not from the Hillsborough, New Jersey, area, this is a camera which monitors a pair of nesting Bald Eagles located somewhere on Duke Farms, a 2,700-acre property in our town.

Dydd Gŵyl Dewi Sant

Happy Saint David's Day to all my Welsh family and friends.

Thomas Jefferson's wrote the following on the first page of his Autobiography on January 6, 1821:

The tradition in my father's family was that their ancestor came to this country from Wales, and from near the mountain of Snowden, the highest in Gr. Br.
